The Board has approved a major upgrade to our community’s security and access systems. This investment will modernize our infrastructure and enhance both safety and convenience for all residents. Installation is expected May-June.
What’s included:
Upgraded network infrastructure
New AI-enabled security cameras
New door access locks at the Outpost and Post Office
Updated gate controllers and camera systems
One of the biggest improvements is the elimination of monthly code changes. Each owner will receive a personal, permanent access code that will open all gates and amenity doors. Existing gate stickers will continue to work during this transition.
More details will be shared at the upcoming Town Hall, and additional updates will follow.
Town Hall Q&A: Security Upgrades
Will my gate sticker still work? Yes. Your sticker will continue to function. Additionally, the new system will introduce license plate recognition, allowing registered vehicles to automatically trigger gate access. Over time, this may replace the need for stickers altogether.
Will all gates have this technology? The three main gates and two Double Knob gates will be upgraded this year. Remaining gates are scheduled for next year due to cost and installation timelines. The Smoke Rise gate may not support license plate recognition due to limited approach distance.
Will my code work at all gates, even if I don’t live in Double Knob? Yes. Owner codes will provide access to all gates and amenity doors throughout the community.
Will I have my own code? Yes. Each owner will receive a unique 5-digit code that will not change. You will also receive a separate guest code for visitors. Please keep your personal code private and share only your guest code when needed.
What changes are coming to the Post Office? The Post Office will receive internet connectivity, upgraded cameras, and new secure locks. Your personal code will grant access, and doors will automatically lock behind you.
Will this help manage construction access? Yes. Contractors and vendors will be assigned unique access codes with restricted hours based on community guidelines. The system will track entry with time-stamped images and license plate data, improving oversight and security.
How will events and gatherings be handled? For approved events, doors can be programmed to remain open during scheduled times and automatically secure afterward.
Will emergency vehicles still have access? Yes. The system will recognize emergency vehicles and can also respond to sirens by automatically opening gates.
Who will manage the system? The new cloud-based system will be accessible remotely. Community staff and designated officers will have access, with Katie and Rhonda serving as primary administrators.
What about gates that aren’t upgraded yet? Your personal code will still work at all gates. The difference is that non-upgraded gates will not yet have advanced features like license plate recognition.
How will the new camera system be used? Cameras are strictly for security purposes. AI features will help detect unusual activity and alert staff. While motion and sound may trigger recording, no audio recording or surveillance is conducted. Video storage has been extended to over 30 days.
Our goal is simple: to enhance safety while making access easier and more convenient for everyone in Chinquapin. These upgrades will also improve our ability to respond to and investigate issues when they arise.
More information will be shared soon—thank you for your continued support as we make these improvements.
