I was so lucky to see this pair in late June right outside our house. One visit, I saw mom send baby to hide, and another visit, I saw baby come from its hiding place to mom. photo-Martha Dobson

--The annual homeowners meeting with Mark Adkins is September 15, 10 a.m. at Happ's Bar & Grill on highway 107, Glenville. You should have gotten mail about this earlier in August. Owners can attend in person, by Zoom, or by phone call. If you can't attend at all, assign your proxy vote to an owner and send the proxy by mail or email to IPM, the management group, by 5 pm Sept. 13.

--September 15, there will be a Bearwise program for owners from 4-5 at the Outpost. Let's learn about bears and how to live with them safely AND how to keep them safe. This program by biologist Ashley Hobbs with NC Wildlife is in person and it looks like we can arrange a simultaneous virtual program. Let Martha Dobson know you're coming, in person or virtually, so we can prepare.

--The Calendar page on the website is FULL of September through December events and activities in the area. Festivals, plays, races, a parade and all things Christmas--check it now for dates and details.

--Purple Trail change--Thanks to Dave Barnett's leadership and his helpers, the rerouting of the Purple Trail is complete. It's blazed with purple, diamond-shaped markers on the trees. SEE Blaze on tree in photo below.

(The trails have diamond-shaped blazes, painted with the trail name's color.)The easiest access point to describe to the newest part is Sam's Bridge on the Purple Trail. Hiking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Dave flagged an overhead paper wasp nest with 3 orange survey flags on this new 0.6 mile section. Don't grab and shake the trees there, and they'll leave you alone. Work is underway to update the Purple Trail map available via the Maps and Trails page.

--Gray Trail extension--Dave shares that the Gray Trail has been extended to Roaming Road; the sign for it is just past the bridge, on the road. The Gray Trail crosses the gravel Wilderness Road near Fish Shack and goes past the Waterfall and Overlook Cabins, down the slope to waterfalls. It's marked with gray, diamond-shaped blazes and is an alternative route to Julie and Charlie Falls.

--Directory--If you're not in the directory (under Owner Resources) & want to be in it, contact Val Talley vhtalley@gmail.com or Martha Dobson meadobson@gmail.com, and they will help you with that.
