Pickleball at Chinquapin! If you’re ever looking for a game, or you’re new to the game and want to learn, go to the Calendar page on this site to find details. Owner Diane Thomas is the person to get in touch with, and her email address is on the pickleball information. The Jackson County Recreation Center in Cashiers has organized indoor pickleball games, too. 828.631.2020
More Calendar information—the Chinquapin social events are listed there. Some of the area’s events and the Lake Glenville dam release schedule are on that page.
FedEx deliveries--Over the past months, owners haven’t gotten packages delivered, as addressed, to their home in Chinquapin. Thank you to owner Wendy Renoux who recently investigated the situation and got helpful information. She began with filing a complaint, which is a first step for others if your package is not delivered properly. Wendy shared her info on the owners WhatsApp group & the owner Facebook group maintained by Bob Schatz.
Here is Wendy’s info again.
Deliveries: Bryson City office is in charge of our area-828-428-7330. Wendy spoke with Alise at that number. Alise has a gate code on file the drivers are supposed to use. Alise now has Ashley Roberts’ contact info to verify the code. Alise understands packages aren’t delivered properly and will explain to the manager of the drivers to deliver as addressed. Contact Alise rather than Ashley if there’s a delivery problem. File complaints also, to have that record activated.

Bear activity—they’re out. Keep trash securely away from bears. Close & latch the dumpster doors. Contact Ashley Roberts or Jane Baldwin if latches are broken.
--Don’t feed the birds because the bears dine on the spilled seed, and then they return and learn to be more comfortable around people. Bears should run from people unless they’ve become habituated to them. It’s not good for bears to become habituated.
--When you’re hiking, be alert. Talk so bears hear you and don’t get surprised by your presence. Don’t get between cubs and their mom. Assume that if you see cubs on the ground or in a tree, mom is not far away. Leash dogs.
--REMIND YOUR BUILDERS to tell their workers & subcontractors they can't throw food trash in the construction dumpsters. It attracts the bears.
--For questions about bears and other wildlife, contact NC Wildlife. ncwildlife.org and here’s the contact info for wildlife. Wildlife Interaction Helpline (Wildlife Behavior, Damage, Injury & Co-Existing) 866-318-2401
