Bears are the first thing to catch up on! They were never really gone during the winter; my neighbor’s game camera consistently captured a bear all winter. And now, BearWise.org says yes, spring is coming about 3 weeks sooner than typical. Which means the bears will be active sooner.
To protect bears and humans and pets, take these steps, per Bearwise.org. (That site has flyers about bear safety for printing, something useful to leave in rental properties.)
--Take up & don’t put out bird feeders. Seed that falls on the ground attracts bears, too.
--Don’t put out anything to feed bears/wildlife. Changing their feeding behaviors can lead to bear/human conflict.

--Keep your trash secured. Dumpsters---CLOSE them and LATCH them.
--Clean food trash out of vehicles and lock them. Bears can open car doors, and house doors.
--Leash dogs. Don’t leave them in a fenced area alone.
--Particular to Chinquapin—clean up food and food trash outdoors at the Outpost & throw it away inside or in a dumpster.
