There are lots of holiday events in the Cashiers area. Check the Calendar page on the website to see what's happening and when. On Thanksgiving Day at Chinquapin, folks took the traditional Thanksgiving morning walk and Russ McLauchlan invited all to a game of football near the putt-putt course.

Speed limit signs are posted in the neighborhood.

Winterize your Chinquapin home-- Read the winterization articles under Owner Resources. If you turn off the water to your house, Lucas wants homeowners to turn it at the house, not at the street. Additional tips--set the heat to a lower temperature rather than turning it off; open doors to under sink areas; check your water heater to see if it's the kind that can or cannot be drained.

The directory is updated for November-- There were some additions and some deletions as folks buy and sell properties.

Whitelisting for AOL--To whitelist a contact in AOL, click Contacts on the left navigation bar of your inbox screen. Click the New Contact icon on the top bar. Add the new contact information to the required fields. Click the Add Contact button at the bottom.

Bear information-- The website bearwise.org always has good information, and if you get on its email list, it sends emails with different, additional information. The most recent email contained video about bears denning up under homes and porches and there was video instruction to build a secure crawlspace door that bears can't breach. Thick plywood and lag bolts installed no more than 6 inches apart are necessary.

Power outages--Any time your power is out, notify Duke Energy on its website. The more people who notify, the more complete picture Duke has of the extent and location of the outage. Duke's phone number is under Owner Resources. If you're not at your Chinquapin home, still report the outage. Sign up for Duke Energy alerts on its website.
