Second Chinquapin Bourbon Barrel Pick & Food Pantry Support 1.28.2026

February 6, 5 pm at the Outpost

From Allen Dobson:

Last year's barrel pick was a lot of fun and an amazing success, so, let’s do it again!

This year, Thomas Thacker, CEO and Master Distiller at Southern Grace Distillery, has agreed to let us pick a Conviction Double Oak barrel for a special Chinquapin bottling. The bottles will all have a special Chinquapin label and will be available at the Cashiers ABC after they are bottled and at the distillery.

The Conviction Double Oak was voted top 5 bourbons for 2025 by two national reviewers, so we should get a great one.

Like last year, Thomas will join us and lead us through the sampling of bourbon from four different barrels to make our choice of the best Double Oak. For those who aren’t bourbon drinkers, we will have a selection of good and interesting wines to try, so a little wine tasting as a bonus.

Please bring an appetizer to share, and we will bring some of our famous Conviction bourbon bread pudding as well.

So we can plan for enough tasting supplies and enough wine, please RSVP to adobson1600@gmail.com. Tell us who is bourbon tasting and who is wine only.

Supporting Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry & picking a bourbon--Matt Schultz, one of our full time neighbors, is on the Board of the local Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry & invites us to support the pantry with products needed right now like toilet paper, Kleenex, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and paper towels. Bourbon pick attendees are invited to bring items to be collected at the event February 6. If you're not attending and want to participate, you can drop your items off at the Outpost during the pick event or order them for delivery. Matt shares that items can be ordered from Amazon Prime, Costco or Sam's, which have free delivery, & asks folks to consider buying a few extra items for delivery to the pantry, 543 Frank Allen Rd., Cashiers, NC 28717. Fishes and Loaves' mission is to help alleviate hunger in Jackson County by gathering and distributing food to all in need. Volunteers support the pantry's work.
