Coming up, the July 8 training to treat hemlocks for the hemlock woolly adelgid. Gotta have at least 15 to hold the event. It's 10-4, July 8. Sign up at this link. https://savehemlocksnc.org/tuesday-july-8-2025-hwa-management-workshop-at-chinquapin-mountain-community/

More affected hemlocks identified on Springwater Road, at the little pons on NSW across from the Natures Walk road, and along NSW between the pond & Breedlove. We will treat Tulip Pond trees as the workshop.
Pick up paper copies of restaurants, important Chinquapin phone numbers, email addresses, names, local services, and emergency & medical services at the neighborhood July 4 event held Saturday, July 5.
UTVs/vehicles are allowed on the Green Trail, also known as the Wilderness Rd., but not on the other trails. Yes, the other trails look big enough for a vehicle, but that's because they are old logging roads. The other trails don't have the surfaces or conditions for UTVs/vehicles. Enjoy your UTV/vehicle on the Green Trail. Inform family & renters of proper trail use.
Trail hike & work day---Dave Barnett is leading a hike July 5. Meet at the Outpost at 9:30; you'll walk the nature trail and learn about the local flora. Dave describes it as an easy 1 hour walk which begins & ends at the Outpost. Then, Wednesday, July 9, meet at 9 at the Outpost for a Navy trail work day, 9-12.

Dumpsters, trash & bears--recently this pictured trash, with a syringe, was not thrown away properly, and on a different day, a dumpster door was open. Both of these are invitations for meals for bears. We've been doing well being aware of bears and not tempting them. Remind family & renters, who might not be in Chinquapin very often, that trash goes IN the dumpsters & the doors get CLOSED & LATCHED. And leaving a syringe in trash bags is not proper disposal procedure. Put syringes in a hardside disposable container before putting it in a trash bag.
